Timeline 1765–2022

From the founding of Polorejo regency to the 7th family reunion. Years marked ± are estimates from the TALI Book.

Beginnings: Polorejo & the Java War

  1. 1765

    Polorejo became a Kabupaten (regency); its first bupati was R.T. Brotonegoro (son of Surodiningrat I).

  2. 1812

    KH. Ibrahim was born in Cokromenggalan, Ponorogo — the eldest son of KH. Ghozali & Ny. Majasem.

  3. ±1824

    KH. Ghozali defended Tumenggung Brotonegoro against slander at the Keraton Solo; he was rewarded with the tumenggung's daughter, a teak rice barn, and forest land to the north-east of the katemenggungan (later Bedi).

  4. 1825

    Diponegoro War: Brotonegoro fought the Dutch; the place names Bakalan, Demung, Tegari, Sekelip and Tilasan were born. Brotonegoro fell at Bukit Larangan (Gunung Gombak), Somoroto.

  5. 1830

    Brotonegoro's rice barn was moved to Cokromenggalan and turned into KH. Ghozali's mosque.

  6. ±1830

    KH. Ibrahim married Ny. Sudjinah, a female santri (student) at his father's pesantren (Islamic boarding school).

The Age of KH. Ibrahim & Pondok Bedi

  1. ±1840

    Set out for the hajj by sailing ship from Tanjung Perak; stayed ±8 years in Makkah (tafsir, hadith, Syafi'i fiqh, tahfiz, khat).

  2. 1847

    Returned bringing a mushaf (written copy of the Qur'an); began copying the Qur'an for santri.

  3. 1848–1849

    Clearing of the Bedi forest (babad alas); founded a house, a mosque and Pondok Pesantren Bedi. The name 'Bedi' comes from 'memedi' (spirits).

  4. 1854–1856

    Era of Bupati R.M.T. Cokronegoro I — the bamboo-carrying incident of the 'santri mbeling' (unruly santri).

  5. ±1878

    Hj. Syarifah (the youngest) was given in marriage to Imam Rozi of Kradinan, Jetis.

  6. 1900–1911

    Dutch village schools opened — traditional pesantren began to decline.

  7. 1917

    KH. Ibrahim passed away in Bakalan, Jumadal Ula 1335 AH, aged ±105. His body was carried in a chain from hand to hand to the Bedi cemetery.

  1. ±1940

    KH. Imam Rozi passed away; Pesantren Bedi ceased.

  1. 1985

    Silatul Arham I (family kinship gathering) & first printing of the TALI Book — PP. Darussalam Kemaduh, Baron, Nganjuk.

  2. 1989

    Silatul Arham II — Bakalan, Polorejo.

  3. 1994

    Silatul Arham III — PP. Al-Falah Jekek, Baron, Nganjuk.

  4. 1996

    Masjid Tamanan was completely renovated by the local community.

  5. 2006

    Silatul Arham IV — Karangtengah, Baron, Nganjuk (home of KH. Mukhlas Ghozali).

  6. 2007

    Restoration of the KH. Ghozali mosque in Cokromenggalan — the story of the four rice-barn pillars.

  7. 2011

    Silatul Arham V — Masjid Ibrohim Ghozali Bedi (3 July 2011). The surviving kitab (religious books) were gathered in a cabinet on the veranda of Masjid Bedi (24 Feb 2011).

  8. 2016

    Silatul Arham VI — Masjid Al-Islah, Santren, Ngronggot, Nganjuk.

  9. 2021–2022

    Academic studies: codicology of the mushaf (UINSA 2021; Jurnal Nun 7(1) 2021) and the history of the Islamisation of Polorejo (UINSA 2022).

  10. 2022

    Silatul Arham VII & 7th edition of the TALI Book — Masjid Baitus Sholihin, Serag, Pulung, Ponorogo (24–25 December 2022).
